Parent Coordinator
How can a Parent Coordinator help?
The Parent Coordinator works with parents to develop and improve communication skills between parents to make decisions for their children's benefit.
Benefits of a Parent Coordinator
Sometimes, parents' anger and hostility prevent them from coming together to make decisions and implement a custody schedule for their children. In those instances, a Parent Coordinator may be an option. A Parent Coordinator works with divorced or separated couples to resolve disagreements regarding their children. In your meetings with a Parent Coordinator, you and your co-parent will have the opportunity to work through the issues while staying focused on a resolution for your children's betterment. A Parent Coordinator can assist parents on any number of issues. It may be that parents cannot agree on what extracurricular activities a child should participate in, or they may disagree about medical care.
The Role of a Parent Coordinator
A Parent Coordinator aims to help parents navigate these issues while shielding the children from the conflict. The parenting coordinator will help you as you walk through your separation or divorce journey to protect your children from the conflict that usually comes with separation and divorce. Your meetings with a Parent Coordinator are tailored to your family's specific needs and areas of contention. A Parent Coordinator spends time understanding the underlying issues between the parties and their reason for the conflict to help parents develop a means to avoid the conflict. The Parent Coordinator does not represent either parent in court. Instead, a Parent Coordinator's goal is to help parents stay out of court regarding matters involving the children.
At Shearin Law, we have attorneys who are also Parent Coordinators. They have years of experience helping parents in high-conflict situations overcome the conflict and learn to work together in their children's best interests.
